On a number of occasions, I started French lessons at a local school with various teachers only to reach a point each time of extreme frustration that led me to quit. I felt completely overwhelmed with the sheer amount of vocabulary, the many verb tenses, and the pronunciation. I convinced myself that I was too old to learn the language, that I didn’t have the brain wiring for it, that I probably could get by okay in France speaking English. That all changed when I was assigned to Gilbert’s class. Something was different with him from the outset and I’m proud to say that I’ve been enrolled continuously for about 3 years now. I’ve even begun to take secondary private lessons with him that are focused on conversation, and during which all we do is talk in French for an hour. Gilbert has a way of making the learning fun for and less stressful to me. He focuses on the verbs, grammar, and vocabulary that will give you the biggest bang for your buck in the conversations you’ll actually employ abroad. Gilbert urges us to “know what’s around you,” i.e., to focus on the vocabulary involved in your unique life—your particular job, your particular house, your particular family, your particular activities, your particular dreams. For instance, Gilbert found out that I’m an avid tennis and pickleball player and enjoy playing when I travel. He organized a pickleball game with him, me, and two others of his students. There was one catch—the rules of the game, the order of play, and all conversation before, after, and during the game had to be done in French. We had a blast and I learned a lot. Most importantly what I learned stuck with me. I feel that way about a lot of what Gilbert teaches me—that it’s specifically tailored to my life and therefore resonates with me and sticks. Truth be told, I am amazed by my progress and I can only thank Gilbert for his understanding of the plight of the new student and for making learning French fun and manageable. Merci beaucoup, Gilbert!

Gilbert is the GOAT of French teachers! I started taking classes with him in 2020 and haven’t been able to stop. After one class, he had sparked a bright first passion for learning the language. He believes in his students and pushes them out of their comfort zone having us read aloud in class and making sure everyone participates. I’m doing so, I couldn’t believe how fast I was learning. In just 2 years, I’ve earned a B2 level certification all thanks to Gilbert’s pedagogy. You won’t regret taking class here!!

Since I was about 10, I've wanted to learn French. In school I always opted for an easier language but always wished I'd studied French. It wasn't until 2020 that I got lucky enough to cross paths with Gilbert! Le meilleur professeur! He immediately made an intimidating language fun and entertaining! The classes are productive and fly by. He himself is wonderfully charismatic, kind, patient, and intelligent – you really can't ask for a better teacher! Thanks to Gilbert I've navigated speaking French in Belgium, Paris, and even randomly here in the States! Learning French has opened lots of doors and opportunities. And perhaps most valuable of all, I've had the privilege to make a new friend. Thanks Gilbert!

« Gilbert is a fabulous teacher. He keeps lessons entertaining, and just challenging enough to learn. His teaching methods are tried and true. I took his classes for 2 years and improved both my understanding and speaking abilities in French. »

I've been taking group and private classes with Gilbert for more than 2 years. In addition to his effective teaching method, his dedication, humor and optimism keep me motivated and engaged. He has also organized in-person meetups and book clubs for us to practice French in different ways. I took lessons from other instructors before but I enjoy Gilbert's classes the most. He has become a good friend to me and I believe other students feel the same too. I traveled to France last year and I had a great time because I could read well and spoke French more comfortably after my classes with Gilbert. I would highly recommend him to all French learners at any level.
